The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes has won one of the casting coups of the year, starring Viola Davis as Dr Volumnia Gaul.

Now, according to The Hollywood Reportershe’s aboard director Francis Lawrence’s prequel to The hunger Gameswhich focuses on the rise of Coriolanus Snow.

“The hunger games Movies have always been exalted by their exceptional cast, and we’re excited to continue that tradition with Viola Davis as Volumnia Gaul,” said Nathan Kahane, president of the film group Lionsgate.
“Her formidable and powerful presence will add layers of complexity and threat to this story.”
Gaul is the Head Gamemaker of the 10th Annual Hunger Games – a position later filled by Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Plutarch Heavensbee.
Lawrence went on to reveal her character: “Dr. Gaul is as cruel as it is creative and as terrifying as it is formidable. Snow’s dexterity as a political operator develops in no small part thanks to his experiences with her as the games’ most impressive figure. .”

songbirds & snakes certainly has a star-studded lineup of castmates.
Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Rachel Zeller (West Side Story) and Tom Blyth (The Gilded Age) have all been given major roles in the film since its announcement, with more to come.
