Michael Gove has been challenged over Brexit after being stuck in huge queues at a Greek airport.

An anti-Brexit holidaymaker confronted the prominent leave activist after being hit by a 30-hour delay that she said had been “exacerbated” by Britain’s exit from the EU.

Former Labor councilor Candida Jones, who also works for a Labor peer, reprimanded the former minister for his part in Brexit in line at Athens International Airport last night.

Mr Gove, who has recently been divorced, was pictured standing alone in the same row, but it is believed he was not on the same flight to Gatwick.

Ms Jones tweeted yesterday: ‘Almost 30 hours delay on our easyJet flight now.

“I have been told that the problem is a lack of staff due to the pandemic which, in the case of the UK, is being exacerbated by #Brexit. So it’s at least some consolation to see Arch Brexiteer (Michael Gove) getting caught up in the same sh**show #BrexitChaos #BrexitShambles’.

The 50-year-old also shared: the mirror that she had argued with the former minister for 15 minutes in the bag drop line.

The South Londoner described the Brexit-supporting Tory as “polite but very passive-aggressive”, adding that he insisted the delays had nothing to do with Brexit.

She told the paper she asked him to name ‘opportunities’ of leaving the EU – and he said the rollout of vaccines and agricultural reforms.

Ms Jones told the Mirror: ‘I said, ‘Come on, this is just ridiculous. There is nothing about EU membership that in any way hindered us from rolling out the vaccine earlier.”

“I said, ‘You’re a smart guy, and know that what you’re telling me isn’t true, and you need to stop treating the British people like we’re stupid.'”

She added that Mr Gove said he was on vacation and didn’t think it was a good time or place for the interview.

The exchange came after months of delays at travel hubs in the UK, which experts say have been exacerbated by Brexit, although other issues are at play.

The incident went viral on social media

Mr Gove was a prominent campaigner for leave but went on to blow up Boris Johnson’s first bid to become Prime Minister.

In the final hours of his premiership, Mr Johnson fired him in apparent retaliation, even as dozens of ministers resigned.

This isn’t the first time Ms Jones, who says every trip she’s taken this year has been disrupted by Brexit, has run into a top Tory while on holiday abroad.

In 2008, she claimed that George Osborne had “ruined” her day on Corfu beach with his motorboat.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Mr Gove’s office for comment.

An ally of his told the Mirror that “he was polite as always.”
