Squid Game star gets lead role in new Star Wars show The Acolyte

The star of the Netflix hit of 2021 is participating Dear Evan Hansen‘s Amandla Stenberg en Anne Boleyn‘s Jodie Turner-Smith in the new Disney+ show, according to Deadline.

The show will be the actor’s first major role since squid game became one of Netflix’s biggest shows ever last year, and with the new role in one of the biggest movie and TV franchises, it seems like a great move for him.

Star Wars: The Acolyte has been announced as a mystery thriller set about a century earlier The Phantom Menacein the closing days of the High Republic era, when the Jedi were at the height of their power.

Lee’s role on the show is being kept a secret with no hints from Lucasfilm as to who he might be portraying.

Meanwhile, showrunner Leslye Headland previously explained why it would be impossible for her queerness not to be reflected in the series itself.

“In the same way as the original Star Wars movie, A new hopeis about a young man living in Modesto, California, who doesn’t want to take over his father’s hardware store…it’s just impossible that as a queer woman I won’t be reflected in my work,” she said.

“I could try not to, but why should I? It just feels like a natural extension of what I’m doing.”

There is no release date for Star Wars: The Acolyte for the time being. The Mandalorian season 1 and 2 are streaming now Disney+. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, but also on Disney+. There is no release date for Star Wars: The Acolyte for the time being.
